The Longest I Was Stoned

That was the longest I was stoned
Room full of friends and you slide out the door
They said "Where you going man?"
I don't know
I drive down the coast, no music on

And I always thought that you would wait for me
But you grew up, it's too late for me
So I wear this life like it was made for me

Waking up out of a chalk outline
Started to jump but I changed my mind
Can be hard to smile when your heart is a mess
But that was the thing that you did best

And I always thought that you had it worse
"Money beats love," That was your daddy's words
And you won the race of who would find peace first

We lay on the beach, too drunk to stand
I still get a buzz when you hold my hand
We let the tide just cover us up
What can they take now?
Nothing at all

And I always thought that you would make it through
When I'm walking down the tracks I still think of you
And I wear this life like I was born to do

That was the longest I was stoned
Drive down the coast, no music on
